The Liberal government has brought forward Bill C-10. Originally this Bill was intended to level the playing field so that the platforms on the internet would all be forced to play by the same rules.
Minister Guilbeault, said that if passed, he wants C-10 to be able to help implement “the Government’s vision.” You have the right to speak your mind on and off the internet.
At first, the government promised to exclude “user-generated content” (online posts by citizens) from new regulations, but the Liberals then amended their own bill to regulate posts by citizens. The Liberals want the government to be able to censor you if you don't agree with their "government's vision."
A Law Professor from the University of Ottawa commented on these changes saying, “This is a remarkable and dangerous step in an already bad piece of legislation.” and, a former CRTC Commissioner said the bill is a “hammer” to “intimidate free speech” and that it “doesn’t just infringe on free expression, it constitutes a full-blown assault upon it and, through it, the foundations of democracy.”
Please sign this petition to tell the Government of Canada to immediately withdraw this censorship bill, Bill C-10, and respect free speech.
