The Liberal Government has funded studies to explore imposing taxes on the sale of your home. This study suggests a surtax on the sale of homes above 1 million dollars, which could take more than 5 billion dollars from Canadians on the sale of their homes.
This is wrong. Homeowners shouldn’t be blamed and punished for the government’s failure to stabilize the housing market.
Homes have been purchased as an investment, which will grow value in the future. In times of uncertainty and stress, new taxes on homes should not be introduced.
The government should be tackling the root causes of rising home prices: a housing supply shortage and a high inflation rate instead of again forcing another tax on homeowners.
